Batch Bash – Guy

News

Another Batch Bash, another wet evening, but it didn’t deter the 133 runners who lined up for the senior race (nor the hardy over 10s in the junior race). Despite starting slightly higher up the lane, we eventually completed 3.41 miles  (Frank and Tom’s watches agreed) of hilly (400m of ascent), varied terrain. The first climb was a scrabble, the first descent a bum slide for most, and then we negotiated streams, slippery narrow sheep tracks, another steep climb before (what Gary G likes best) a steepish grassy descent to the Batch valley and the finish. Jon Bowie won in 26.16, just ahead of an under 14 (they should be tucked up in bed at that time of night!), 13 seconds behind. Gary P, having finished the Cader Idris race in 1.49.39 a few days earlier, was first Croft runner back in 32.42 (25th), but Pat was not far behind ( 33.31, 32nd). Gary G was 1st over 65 (and again beat 1st over 60), 65th in 36.57, 11 seconds faster than in a dry 2012. I was 78th in 37.49, a minute faster than last year (apparently an over 70 record, for which I received a small reward), with Frank 93rd (40.42) and Tom 115th (43.48)
