Batch Bash – Shropshire summer fell series, race 3

News

90 runners set off from All Stretton on a fine summer’s evening (in fact the dazzle made the first road section a bit tricky) to run the 3.66 mile (courtesy of Tom’s GPS) course over the lower stretches of the Long Mynd. Inevitably there was congestion for the first mile or two, as we struggled up the first hill in single file. Despite recent rain, the going was largely dry and fast (when it wasn’t uphill!). I caught Gary at the top of the last hill, only to see him race away again on the descent, giving him a 28 second cushion by the finish. The race was won by a 15 yr old from Tamworth AC, Kristian Edwards, in 28.52. We oldies were a little slower: Gary was 38th and 1st MV65, in 37.18, with me 2nd MV65 in 37.46. Tom was 1st MV60 (and now permitted by his doctor to win bottles of red wine!) in 42.48.
