The penultimate race in the 6 event series, with summer drawing to a close, saw another good turnout for the woodland trek. One converse bonus of having a poor run is that you will have a favourable handicap the following month. Having hobbled home last time, Ashley flew around the course this time to cross the finish line over a minute in front of the field. Larry continued his improvement in second place with a big P.B. and Martin showed a glimpse of his best form to complete the top 3. Tom sprinted past the tiring Bryan over the final 50 metres to win the battle of the senior citizens. The performance of the evening came from Kevin whose exploits continue to impress with each run. Not only did he knock nearly a minute off his best time but he went to no. 18 on the all-time list after just a few months running with the club.Gemma produced another exceptional run and also climbed to no. 4 on the female listings and managed to stick to the proper route. Sam decided that she could not match Gemma at the running game but could beat her at the “getting lost in the woods” game. She spotted a roe deer with defective teeth and tracked it on an errand of mercy. All very altruistic, but if she thinks that she will get a 20 minute start next time the lady is much mistaken.Frank’s catalogue of mishaps unfortunately continued – having kindly hacked a way through the bracken and brambles in preparation for the event, his calf injury forced him to drop out before he hit that section. Hopefully, his luck will change soon. The final race will be on Tuesday 6th Sept. starting at 7 p.m. – please try to be early so that we can make a prompt start with the nights closing in.
