Another record turnout for the summer’s first trip to Croft Woods in the handicap series illustrates the current healthy state of the club and the enthusiasm of its members.
Heavy rain during the day, after a lengthy spell of dry weather, created tricky underfoot conditions for the runners but some excellent times were recorded as they raced down the finishing straight emerging from the evening mist like extras in a horror film.
Simon is enjoying a rich vein of form since entering the veteran ranks and he overtook 24 runners after starting at the back of the grid and finished in style well clear of the field. Tom appears to be regaining some fitness with a strong 2nd. place and Dave the Younger just held off the ever-improving Gavin as they sprinted for the line. Gavin’s time takes him into the Top 10 of all-time performances over the course.
There were a number of P.B. recordings and some excellent debuts, notably from Sue who registered the 3rd fastest ever female time and entered the Top 10 at no. 3 as well as setting a female vet. 45 record. Mark’s first venture round the course saw him recording an excellent run which places him equal 13th on the all-time listings with a time that was just 45 secs. away from the V45 record.
Mick and Peter H. reappeared after lengthy spells of truancy with Peter just getting back into running and Mick showing promising signs of improvement.
The Chairman’s award for the most worthy performance of the evening was given to our remarkable highly esteemed President who was back in action as the oldest competitor to complete the course just 9 days after he celebrated his 70th birthday by competing successfully in a Triathlon. Long may he run.
2 races to go in the 2010 series with the next scheduled for Tuesday 10th. August
