Croft Woods Handicap Race 3

News

The final race in the 2011 series attracted another good club representation as we bid farewell to another summer.

Adam made a rare appearance but proved that his recent absence had not affected his running prowess as he crossed the finish line with a clear lead in first place with a big p.b. Triathlon star Stuart followed, saving his best for the last race, with another improvement on his previous best and Martin completed the top 3 with his best performance of the summer as he regains some good form.

Nobody got lost !

The real star performance of the evening came from the latest talented member of the Austin family as young Toby ran as a guest and flew round the course in impressive style.

12 runners completed the required 5 out of 6 races throughout the summer to be in contention for the 2011 champion. Our honourable and esteemed president Bryan demonstrated what a magnificent example he is to us all with some typically determined performances to win the award. To be still producing such consistent and impressive displays in his 70s is truly remarkable. Competing in all 6 events can also be an advantage as your worst position can be eradicated. Congratulations to our distinguished president who represents Croft Ambrey with pride and distinction.

Highlights of the 2011 handicap series season : The arrival into the Croft ranks of Gemma who made an immediate impact by hitting the no. 4 spot in both forms of the series ; The one appearance of the injury prone Neil Powell took him into the top 10 in the Croft woods rankings ; A very promising first season from Kevin with the potential of more to come ; Great to see Tom back to full fitness and running with his customary determination ; Sam and Gemma vying for the David Livingstone Explorer’s award ; Bryan’s longevity : Stacey climbing to no.4 in the Leinthall Starkes rankings – has anyone else noticed that timekeeper for the night, Guy, has been able to travel to France more often this summer whilst Stacey is now pleading poverty ?

Another successful series in what is a long established part of the Croft Ambrey calendar and rewarding to welcome a number of new faces.
