CROFT WOODS HANDICAP – Race 5 (13th August 2013)

News

The penultimate race in the 2013 handicap series attracted just 18 runners to the woodland course. Ashley, having hobbled home last month, made his advantage count by crossing the finish line first well clear of the competition. Tom followed as he continued his spell of good form with Romeo Rouse, taking a break from his long distance exploits and pleasing the timekeeper by strangely turning up on time, overtaking a few on the finishing straight to take third place.

Sam produced the star performance of the evening by storming round the course and knocking a huge 50 seconds off her best time. It is not unusual for Sam to set a P.B. but it is normally a case of chipping away a few seconds at a time, so this was a vast improvement which now places her at no. 12 on the all-time female listings. The only other P.B. of the night belonged to Dave George who battled every step of the way to knock a single second off his best time set over 5 years ago – life in the old dog yet.

Andrew recorded the quickest time of the night with a time 5 seconds faster than Simon who was returning from his successful triathlon adventures.

Welcome to newcomer Paul Green, who recorded a respectable debut time and compliments to him for not getting lost which is the common plight of the debutant. Perhaps he had the sense not to listen to the advice and mis-directions of his opponents.

With just one race remaining, there are still 18 potential candidates for the winner’s trophy to be decided on the best 5 positions in the 6 events. With large numbers competing, almost all of those are serious contenders.

The final race will be held on Tuesday 3rd September, with the first runner setting off at the earlier time of 6.45 p.m. to counteract the descending darkness. Please don’t be late.
