Herefordshire X-C, Race 5 (Presteigne)

News

After heavy rain, this new course offered a lot more mud and water dips than we were used to. A smaller field than usual followed the new route, avoiding a long steep uphill, but extending the actual run. Croft women might have finished 2nd team, but it wasn’t to be: they finished 3rd over all. Sue D missed the race through injury; Nicky again had a good run (6th in 36.12), followed by the ever improving Liza (14th, 37.38) and not far behind her, Rowena, running in her first race for Croft and not looking too traumatised afterwards! She finished 19th (39.09). Sue Powell also did well, leaving 22 runners in her wake (the water wasn’t really that deep!) – 26th, in 41.40. The men were well represented in numbers (14 out of male 58 finishers), but the performances on the day saw the team finish 2nd over all, just 3 points behind the winners. Stacey was 8th (46.29), giving himself a slightly greater margin over Simon this time (10th, 48.18). Stuart, like Liza, is improving all the time, coming in 12th (48.50), a whisker ahead of young Dave (48.58). Dan is also showing greater fitness (16th, 50.12), Mick took the over 50 title with his 21st place; Mark ran well (22nd) and Patrick is also showing a return to form (24th). Dave G likewise (31st), and Martin is also on his way back (38th). Gary ducked under the hour, and took 2nd over 60, ahead of Neil (60.24). Guy and Tom struggled in a little later!
