Morning After – Church Stretton

News

2013 dawned bright and sunny, and even the birds were singing as if Spring was round the corner (it was all right for them, they wouldn’t have to trudge through slippery mud) A field of some 180 runners ( and walkers too) raced off up the High Street, slipped and slurped through Rectory Field, before tackling the ups and downs of the Long Mynd valleys. In view of all the rain the course wasn’t too difficult after the early mud. Simon raced around in 10th (34.45), ahead of Mel Price. Richard was next in 23rd (37.05), with Gary P returned to form and fitness, 36th (38.34). Sue (39.36) had a good run, 46th and 3rd FV45 in a high class category while Ruth (40.31) improving with every race, must have had her sights on her landlady, less than a minute in front. Ruth is listed as 1st Senior Lady, due to a mis-print, but was actually 2nd – a great achievement nevertheless.Young Jasper had a great race, apparently finishing just ahead of Ruth, but his result was not recorded. I came in 73rd and 1st MV65, in 42.02, and Adam, with whom I had had a constant battle, 76th (42.30) Ashley was 89th (43.43), Frank 98th (44.26), and Tom, like Jasper, for some reason ‘didn’t trouble the scorer’.
