The Big Dipper

News

Of the eighty-two starters this year the outstanding performance came from forty-seven year old Kim Mazzucca of the Forest of Dean Athletic Club who smashed the previous course record by over three minutes to win the ladies race. She was followed home by sixteen year old Clara Evans of Hereford County AC and Luned Jones of Cheptow Harriers came third. Of the men, Stacey Morgan [33m25s] from Croft Ambrey Running Club coped best with the final hill at four and a half miles and went on to win ahead of Eliot Taylor of Hereford Couriers and Jon Newey of Malvern Joggers. The event kicked off with children’s races on the playing field at the Millennium Hall rewarded by a Big Dipper medal. For their sports towel and free tea and cakes the adults had to complete 5.6 miles on this scenic course which the organisers describe as ‘undulating’ but some competitors prefer ‘hilly’. Nigel Misselbrook [35m36s] was 1st MV40 partly by default as Jon Newey was 3rd overall. Stephen Jakeman [40m55s] was 29th, Frank Luscott [41m49s] was 32nd, Darren Lincoln [42m14s] was 36th and Guy Whitmarsh [42m21s] was 37th and 2nd MV60. Nicky finished 2nd FV50, in 43.30. The close proximity to his home brought a rare foray from Bryan Davies [43m37s] who was 44th and 3rd MV60.Bryan Lloyd [44m20s] was 48th and Catherine Percival and Tom Davies jogged round together in 62m18s.
