The Magic Roundabout

News

This race is organised by Hay Hotfooters and is a 10k race on Begwns common near Llowes. This was the first time I had competed and following the signs off the main road in Llowes , I found myself heading up a narrow winding lane for several miles, and then through a farmyard to eventually park. There was then the chance of a good warm up to get to race HQ and then a steep uphill jog to get to the start by the ‘roundabout’.The views would normally be fantastic, however it was a cool ,damp morning, ideal for running but not quite so nice for spectating. An entertaining pre-race briefing then followed before 144 of us including 5 Croft runners set off over undulating common land on a very well marked and marshalled course.John Pugh ( Builth) was 1st home in 37.13 over a minute in front of Gwynant Jones (u/a) in second ( a junior) and Sean Taylor (Griffithstown Harriers) 3rd. 1st female was Emma McWilliams in 14th overall in a time of 44.10. I managed to be first Croft runner home in 7th (42.0), Mick Ligema was 15 th in 44.14 and 1st MV55, Matt Moffatt was 28th in 46.26, Gary was 39th in 47.11 and 1st MV65 and Tom was 74th in 51.28.

The selection of cakes at the end was staggering and it seems to be a local race well worth supporting.
