Wrekin Wrecker – Shrops winter fell series

News

A cold, but beautifully sunny day saw 209 runners set off along the narrow track on the north side of the Wrekin. Then began the first (and runnable) of three climbs, before the treacherously steep descent through oak woods (where poor Gary P turned his ankle over), followed by a long flattish run along the south side. The 2nd climb was definitely not runnable – straight up to the trig point. A rapid descent on the rocky track was followed by another slither down steep muddy paths before the final ascent to the summit, a run down along a rocky ‘path’ and the final switchback to the finish. Steve Cale won (again), in 58.12, but Richard did well to finish 42nd (1.14.13), with Matt 4 minutes behind in 63rd. Ruth disappeared from my sight by the third climb and finished 95th (1.22.08), over 2 minutes in front of me (109th).
