Beast of Bitterley

Race Reports

Sam H persuaded me to run The Beast of Bitterley race today.

As the name suggests, a challenging run just over 5 miles up to the top of Titterstone Clee then back down again.
Organised by Ludlow Runners it was a really well marshalled fell type run. It included fields, common ground, some rocks, road and a steep climb up to the highest point with a spectacular 360* lookout finishing with some muddy downhill parts on the descent. The weather and views were great. Overall, a good mixed bag!

There was a good turnout of Croft members, 7 in total with 82 runners in the field.
The wonderful array of cakes and tea served in fine china cups at the end were the perfect finishers treat!

This will definitely be on my radar to run again next year, I really enjoyed it.

Results were:
Gary P. 47:21 4th
Nigel T. 48:08. 6th
Pat P. 49:50. 11th
Guy W. 56:40. 29th
Tom D. 59:00. 38th
Sam H. 59:32. 40th
Carol P (Tom). 64:36 52nd

(Re-reading Sam’s report from 2015, I see she thought Tom would have overtaken her, given a little more time/distance. He waited 2 years and managed it, just! Tom was just 13 seconds slower, 2 years later, Gary P under a minute slower, and Sam 75 seconds – remarkably consistent, in view of the ageing process! Guy)
