Brown Clee Burn

Race Reports

By 11am the sky was clear blue, and the morning was pleasantly warm. Once we set off up the 2km of road though we soon became rather too warm! Then there was a narrow, steep, rutted path up to the top of Brown Clee, where after the recent dry spell,it was surprising to find some boggy patches. From the summit it was a fast(-ish!) descent along a gravel road, over moorland, along tracks and finally across fields to the final few hundred yards along the road to the finish.

Dave B sped off from the start, but slowed on the steeper path, where I managed to overtake him, only to be overhauled in my turn on the descent. I was expecting Sam to race past on the uphill, but maybe the path was too narrow. Dave finished in a very good 19th position (out of 60), in 58.48. I was a couple of minutes behind in 26th, with Sam 28th, in 1.01.58.

This year’s race was an improvement, with the steep descent on tarmac avoided, but a shame about the long wait for results, and lack of detail (no categories or clubs).
