Shropshire Young Athletes Cross Country League – Race 2 – Shrewsbury

Race Reports

The second race in the Shropshire Young Athletes Cross Country League was on a
bright and breezy day at Meole Brace School, Shrewsbury where Croft Ambrey
Juniors raced against runners from 12 other clubs, colleges and schools across the
age groups.
The races were all based on a 1450m circuit of the school sports fields, providing a
perfect running surface on closely mown grass. From the start line it was a fast
200m straight then a left turn from which the course dropped off-camber quickly to
the lower fields. The perimeter of the fields led to a short kick up and 100m of level
running before turning right and up a steep climb over 100m, a couple of little twists
and a 250m straight to complete the lap.
The first race was for the Under 11 girls over 1 lap. There were excellent runs by
Ava who placed 6 th , Jasmin 14 th and Maisie 39 th . With team scores based on 4
runners, the 3 girls still secured 6 th placed team.
Second race up was the Under 11 boys over 1 lap. Ben was first Croft junior over
the line in 3 rd place, only 9 seconds behind the winner. With Caleb and Jamie having
solid runs, and again with only 3 runners, the boys placed as 7 th team.
Under 15 and Under 17 girls raced over 2.9km and 4.1km respectively, then it was
up to the Under 13 boys. They had a 2,900m course taking in 2 laps with two
ascents of the steep hill. They both had really good runs and with Jack finishing 26 th
and Adam 36 th they placed as 10 th team
Under 15 and Under 17 boys competed over 4.1km and 5.25km, and then the last
race of the day was for the Under 13 girls. Their course was over 2 slightly shorter
laps totalling 2,400m but still with the steep hill to negotiate twice. Croft’s only runner
