Westhope summer off-road series 2017

Race Reports

The first race of the summer, and appropriately hot summer weather. Beneath a fine blue sky was a cumulus (?) of sky blue vests, estimated to number 40, a record turn-out for Croft. The course involving one anti-clockwise lap round the top orchard, and a similar loop round the bottom orchard, before returning to the top orchard for a clockwise lap, had been slightly shortened but in a way was tougher, with no respite from the climb as we approached the final 800 metres or so back to the finish.

Without Malvern Joggers and Maldwyn, the total numbers were down a bit, but made up for with a host of Croft, Ludlow and Wye Valley runners. Stacey ran a great race, coming home first a few seconds in front of Mark L, who did well to hold off Sam M, now running in Wye Valley colours. It was good to see Simon back running for us, as he crossed the line in 5th place, with Greg our 4th male A team member. Irina was our first female finisher, with Emma being the second counter, just a minute behind, bringing the A team home in a magnificent first place. With some absentees amongst  the Croft top runners, maybe it’s a position we can hold over the coming races? The B team was 4th, the C team 10th and we even had 14th, 18th and 19th places – a record 6 teams, made up of 6 runners each.
