Ludlow Parkrun

Race Reports

An interim report on the parkrun, 49 years after the first moon landing, a month after the longest day and the first day of the school holidays (for many). When I was a teacher the first day of term was often a PD (professional development ) day, but this first day of the holidays turned into a PB day.

Following on from his massive PB at the Croft Woods handicap race, Alec not only finished in a magnificent second place, ahead of the mighty Simon Norwood, but also created another PB,, by 1 minute and 10 seconds. Not a bad feat, when your best now stands at 20.14 – having made a 5% improvement. Mark P, in his 2nd parkrun, knocked even more off his previous best (is ‘best’ correct for one event?) – 1 minute and 14 seconds, down to 23.58. Jo M was pleased to dip (well) below 26 minutes (25.26). Sue D and I were ‘hot on her heels’ all the way round. Then came new member, Lucy, hoping to better her previous best of 36.32. Her modesty was rewarded with a fantastic 25% improvement, lowering her PB to 27.20! Further PBs will be somewhat harder to achieve! The last of the PBs was achieved by Bryan. At 78 he is speeding up; last week he knocked 5 secs off his previous best, this week it was a larger chunk – 41 seconds, so his PB now stands at 31.56. For youngsters it’s natural to expect PBs from time to time, but to be running faster at 78 than at 76 is quite remarkable.

With Ashley, Stephanie, Lisa and Max also running, it was a fine Croft turnout.
