Monkhall Cross Country League Race and County Championship

News

The event was held as usual on Mervyn Thomas’s farm at Monkhall over a hilly course with the ‘water feature’ and a very muddy section through the woods. Croft was well represented by 12 men and 4 ladies running.

Stacey came home first for Croft in 8 th place and then there was some really good packing with Stuart 15 th – really coming into form, Neil P 16 th – another excellent run, Dave A 17 th and Nigel M 18 th with a mere 42 seconds between them. They were followed by Mick 21 st who was also first over 50, Gary G 35 th, Matt 42 nd, Daren 44 th, Frank 49 th and Adam 62 nd. Mark started the race but dropped out after the first lap, really suffering from a virus which has been affecting his running for a few weeks now. The men’s first team were 2 nd overall and the second team were 7 th.

The mud and hill seemed to suit the girls with all four having very good runs. Sue came home in 2 nd place. Suzanne benefiting from three weeks of training around the hills of Bircher and Croft was 4 th, Nicky 8 th and Liza 16 th. These excellent runs put Croft in first place in the team event.

The county championships were held at the same time, the results aren’t out yet but as Suzanne was first home in the Junior Female event (and did enter the County event) she should be County Champion for this age group.

Big thanks to Mike for being at the finish line (in a very windy spot) in his usual capacity of time keeping. It was good to see a friendly face at the end of that hill and Bryan in charge of the camera!Nicky – still trying to get that red mud out of her socks! (NB Suzanne could actually be ‘crowned’ senior ladies’ champion, since the preceeding 3 were all vets, and she was recorded as senior rather than junior) Results on Results page.

Nicky
